Only 6 months before our trip
we realize that our Swahili could be better ....
We need some sort of introduction to the Swahili language.
There are several good sites on the internet though:
I especially enjoy:
looked it up:
"I want to learn Swahili" ~ "mie arithi katika durusi Kiswahili".
Wonder if any Kenyans would be able to understand that ?
So with a constant mobile internet connection, a pda of sorts, we will be all right ...
http://www.masai-mara.com/mmsw.htm seems a little better:
"I'd like a cold beer" ~ "Tafadhali natakabia [pombe] baridi"
"No problem" ~ "Hakuna matata"
and if in doubt or just plain embarressed, one could go with:
"Where are the toilets?" ~ "Wapi choo"
Absolutely necessary as we go into the Swahile tongue twisters:
Mbuzi hali nazi kwa vile hawezi kupanda ngazi ndipo azifikie nazi.
Katibu Kata wa Kata ya Mkata amekataa katakata kukata miti katika kata ya Mkata.
Kale kakuku kadogo ka kaka kako wapi kaka?
Twanga tope ni twange tope tope hilo la twangwa je?
I think we should memorize these sentences and impress our hosts
[finding a good context, for: "Where are your chickens, brother?"
might be difficult though"]
Sorry about the html on this blog, somehow it doesn't look as good as when we started,
but complain to blogspot, I haven't touched anything ?
